Thanks for sharing the detail on the National Poetry Series. Their transparency is sort of refreshingly shocking, I guess. Even a modest fee-waiver program might help them save face a little, since their revenue sources are so public? Even if they're not interested in doing fee waivers to help themselves get the best possible submissions regardless of economic status.
yeah, with you on this... I've been surprised at how readily I've gotten a solid "no" on the fee support question from the presses I've asked. The bar for what's consider "fee support" is low for this project--even if they comped a few submissions, for instance, that would count. And with the National Poetry Series, when I read their statement of purpose (https://nationalpoetryseries.org/about/), I'm surprised they don't consider fee support a natural, needed part of their purpose... I don't know how they can say they're serving their mission given the barrier to entry?
You’ve got such a generous heart. I wish I could help on some way to make poetry and publishing opportunities more accessible. I run a literary arts nonprofit and I’d love to discuss a way to collaborate or support your projects.
Thanks, Ruben! I have been wondering how to bring in some collaborators, especially for doing the fee waiver/fee support outreach. Drop me a note (hello@emilystoddard.com) if you want to talk more about that!
Thank you so much for mentioning me here - how sweet! And I enjoyed your entire post, so helpful <333
Reading this today made me happy. Thanx so much for what you do. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🤩 and I love your idea to push back❣️❣️
